musical ratios
The ratios of the diatonic (major) scale in music are (all but one) perfect multiples of ONE EIGHTH. To verify this, here is a scan from the book The Theory of Sound in its relation to Music, by Professor Pietro Blaserna of The Royal University of Rome, published by Henry S. King and co., London, 1876, page 127:-
1 = 8/8
and then there is 9/8
and then there is 5/4 which is equal to 10/8
and then there is 4/3 which is a reversal of the ratio 3/4 which is equal to 6/8
and then there is 3/2 which is equal to 12/8
and then there is 5/3 which is NOT a multiple of one eighth
and then there is 15/8
and then there is 2 which is equal to 16/8
